The Guangdong Provincial Department of Education Conducts an On-Site Inspection of the SUSTech-King’s College London Joint Medical School
On January 2, 2025, a five-member inspection team from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education conducted a thorough on-site review and quality assessment of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech)-King’s College London Joint Medical School (SKMed). This inspection aimed to implement the Regulations on Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education and related measures, promoting the healthy development of Sino-foreign cooperative educational programmes.
Leaders and representatives from various departments of SUSTech, including the Office of International Cooperation, Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, Finance Office, Admissions Office, Library, SKMed, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, participated in the inspection. The inspection was chaired by Wang Songling, Dean of the School of Medicine, Dean of SKMed, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The on-site inspection began with Wang Pengfei, Secretary of the Joint Party Committee of the School of Medicine and Director of the Affiliated Hospital Construction Office, introducing the attendees. Wang Songling, Dean of the School of Medicine and SKMed, delivered a welcome address and provided a brief overview of SKMed. Zhou Liuyu, a Level-4 Investigator from the Department of Exchange and Cooperation at the Provincial Department of Education, emphasized the importance and significance of the inspection. Zhou expressed hopes that this review would offer valuable insights into SKMed’s operations and provide guidance for its future development.
Zhang Jian, Vice Dean of SKMed and Dean of Zhicheng College, delivered a detailed presentation covering the school’s educational philosophy, curriculum design, faculty composition, teaching quality, and financial status. He highlighted SKMed’s commitment to maintaining high standards and rigorous requirements since its inception, aiming to cultivate high-caliber medical professionals with global perspectives and innovative capabilities.
The inspection team commended SKMed for its achievements in Sino-foreign cooperative education. They acknowledged the school’s excellence in educational philosophy, curriculum design, and faculty composition. The team offered constructive guidance and encouraged SKMed to further strengthen its collaboration and exchanges with renowned international universities, continuously enhancing the quality and standards of its education.
The inspection team also visited the UNESCO Center for Higher Education Innovation for further evaluation. This inspection by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education served as a comprehensive assessment of SKMed’s operations. SKMed pledged to carefully review the valuable feedback provided, using the insights to reinforce its strengths, enhance its quality, and elevate its academic standards.
