Wang Songling

Dean


Wang Songling: Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dean of SUSTech-King's School of Medicine, and Dean of SUSTech School of Medicine, Chair Professor.


Wang Songling, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and a recipient of the Outstanding Performance Award from the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He is a professor and chief physician. He completed his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at Peking University Health Science Center, and has been a visiting scholar at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan, and a senior visiting scholar at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. 


Formerly, he served as Vice President of Capital Medical University and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau. Currently, he is the Dean of SUSTech-King's School of Medicine, and Dean of SUSTech School of Medicine, President of the National Institute of Health Data Science at Capital Medical University, Vice President of the Chinese Stomatological Association and Beijing Medical Association, and Director of the Oral Health Beijing Laboratory. He is the convener of Oral Medicine for the 8th Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Chairman of the 6th National Oral Teaching Materials Review Committee, Chief Editor of the Chinese Journal of Stomatology, Editor-in-Chief of Current Medicine, Medical Education Management, and Today's Stomatology. 


He has published 269 papers, including 179 in English as the principal author. He is the first completer of two National Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2003 and 2010. His awards include the William J. Gies Award, the Wu Jieping Medical Innovation Award, and the He Liang He Li Science and Technology Award. His research focuses on salivary gland and tooth regeneration. He discovered the human cell membrane nitrate transport channel and proposed the concept of homeostatic medicine, developing a new nitrate-based drug, NaiRuite. He revealed new mechanisms in tooth development, developed new dental pulp stem cell drugs, and successfully achieved biological tooth regeneration.
